  • The pair have demanded 20 kebab shop pizzas to be delivered for their ward

Two prison officers have been taken hostage by a pair of Swedish murderers, who have offered to release one in return for 20 kebab shop pizzas.

The hostage incident is currently unfolding at the high-security facility near Eskilstuna in central Sweden.

Two inmates barricaded themselves inside a guard room at the Hällby prison with the prison officers at 12.30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service in an email to the TT news agency.

They also covered the CCTV cameras, the emailed statement said.

At around 4.30 p.m., it was reported by Swedish news site Aftonbladet that a task force had entered the facility, with three or four black vans rolling up to the building.

Jörgen From Nordin, acting security chief, told the news agency that the two inmates involved in the hostage taking were serving sentences for murder.

Isak Dewit, 30, and Haned Mahamed Abdullahi, 24, have been named as the two murderers who have taken the guards hostage.

According to Aftonbladet, they are armed with razor blades and demanded a helicopter, but they agreed to release one of the hostages in exchange for 20 kebab shop pizzas to feed everyone on their prison ward.

Pictures from a nearby kebab shop showed the pizzas being prepared, before being loaded into a police car to be transported to the high-security facility, presumably to be given to the two hostage takers.

Retired Swedish police officer Torbjörn Sivertsson praised the move to deliver the pizza, saying it means that officials will have opened negotiations with the prisoners.

Mr Nordin said it was a ‘very serious incident,’ noting that they were unaware of how the hostages were feeling and that their families had been notified.

The Local reported that a police spokesperson said around 4pm there was a police helicopter present over the prison.

‘Two inmates have barricated themselves in a space in the institution and in the same room there are two employees,’ they said.

Hällby prison is a class-one prison, the highest level of security classification in Sweden. It is found around six miles west of Eskilstuna.
