SNL cold open mocks new Covid mask rules
Joe Biden has said the US is making “incredible progress†in its Covid-19 vaccination programme but warned, “we’re not done yetâ€.
The president’s comments on Sunday night came after the CDC said over 157 million Americans had received at least one dose of a jab.
With at least a third of the country still to get an injection, Mr Biden urged those eligible to “get vaccinated.â€
“And then ensure your family, friends, and neighbours do as wellâ€, the president added. “Let’s finish strong, folks.â€
Elsewhere, Liz Cheney has warned that the Republican Party is moving in a “dangerous directionâ€.
Ms Cheney, a vocal critic of Donald Trump, was speaking just days after she was ousted from her role as GOP conference chair by the president’s loyalists.
“I think it’s very dangerous,†Ms Cheney said of the state of her party.
Speaking to ABC News, Ms Cheney added: “I think that we have to recognise how quickly things can unravel. We have to recognize what it means for the nation to have a former President who has not conceded, and who continues to suggest that our electoral system cannot function, cannot do the will of the people.â€
Her intervention comes amid multiple reports that President Trump, who is still refusing to admit defeat in last year’s election, could run again for office in 2024.

A former Florida official central to the federal probe into whether US representative, Matt Gaetz, trafficked a minor for sex will plead guilty on Monday and agree to cooperate with prosecutors, which may spell trouble for the Republican congressman.
Joel Greenberg, a former tax collector in Florida’s Seminole County, will plead guilty to charges including sex trafficking of a minor at a court hearing at 10 am EST (1400 GMT) in federal court in Orlando, Florida, according to an agreement submitted in court on Friday.
Mr Greenberg said he would cooperate with federal prosecutors and admitted to introducing the minor he trafficked to other adult men who engaged in sex acts with the minor in Mr Greenberg’s presence, court papers showed. The papers did not identify the other adult men.

President John F Kennedy told the Secret Service to keep a distance on the day he was assassinated, according to a new book on the subject.
On 18 November 1963, Mr Kennedy told Secret Service supervisor Floyd Boring that agents should tail him from a follow-up vehicle, rather than ride on special boards installed near to his car boot, so as to seem more “accessible to the people.â€

US military offers J&J vaccines for South Korean troops
The US military has offered to provide some Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) coronavirus vaccines for South Korean troops, the defence ministry said on Monday, as South Korea struggles with a shortage of Covid-19 shots.
The offer comes days before President Moon Jae-in is due to visit Washington for his first summit with US President Joe Biden, amid calls for Mr Moon to secure more and faster deliveries of US-made vaccines.
South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported that US Forces Korea (USFK) had offered to give 13,000 doses of J&J’s vaccine, citing unidentified government sources.
The ministry declined to confirm how many shots USFK had offered, but said it was discussing how to use them with USFK and health authorities.
“USFK had conveyed its willingness to provide J&J vaccines for the vaccination of our soldiers,” the ministry said in a statement.
USFK spokesman Colonel Lee Peters declined to confirm the offer but told Reuters that it was working closely with the South Korean government on the US-authorised use of vaccines.

ICYMI: Matt Gaetz denies sexual misconduct allegations
Republican congressman Matt Gaetz denied sexual misconduct allegations against him at a political rally on Saturday.
“I’m being falsely accused of exchanging money for naughty favours,†Representative Gaetz said during his speech at the Ohio Political Summit.
“Yet, Congress has reinstituted a process that legalises the corrupt act of exchanging money for favours, through earmarks, and everybody knows that that’s the corruption.â€
His comments came as Joel Greenberg, an associate of the Florida congressman, was expected to plead guilty in court on Monday to several sexual misconduct charges.
