Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson certainly knows his role.

And though the honor was huge, the A-lister made sure he took time to gush over his wife Lauren Hashian for her parenting skills.

‘I would marvel at her’: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson took time to gush over his wife Lauren Hashian for her parenting skills, as they are seen together in December 2017

He said that that he had to learn ‘to have better patience’ during the COVID-19 pandemic and was in awe of the 36-year-old singer’s multitasking skills.

Dwayne said: ‘I would marvel at Lauren. We would conduct [at-home school] classes; she would be the teacher, and I sat there crisscross-applesauce with my daughters, and within five minutes I was like, “God, I am so tired.” And my wife was going and going and going.’

The talented star first met Lauren in 2006 while he was filming The Game Plan and they tied the knot in 2019.

He said he appreciates the ease of their longtime relationship as he explained: ‘There’s a comfort. We may argue, but truly within 10 minutes we pull ourselves out of it and find some humor in the things that we just said. Mainly the things that I just said.’

The two share daughters Jasmine, 5, and Tia, 3, as Dwayne shares daughter Simone with ex-wife and production partner Dany Garcia, 52.

He added that COVID-19 helped him become even more appreciative of his life with his family but did take steps to make life feel as normal as possible as he said: ‘It was a shakeup for us.

‘I did this weird thing every day where I still got up and got dressed like I was getting ready to go someplace. I mean, shoes and all. That helped me psychologically. On a relationship and marriage standpoint, you realize you have to really be attentive to your reactions and responses, because your patience capacity starts to compress.’

As for being named the number one reason to love America, Dwayne insisted that he was even more humbled to receive the honor than when he was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive of 2016.

He explained: ‘It feels great. I’ve been a lucky guy over the years to have the career that I’ve been blessed enough to have.

‘And things like this, I’m always appreciative. We’re here in Hawaii, where I did a lot of my growing up… I was just Dwayne Johnson, the kid who’s having a hard time going to school making his classes. I never expected in my wildest of wild dreams that I would ever be in a position to be on the cover of People - and certainly not with this kind of title.’

Johnson can next be seen starring in Jungle Cruise alongside Emily Blunt, Jesse Plemons, Paul Giamatti, Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, and Veronica Falcón.

The action-adventure film is based on Disneyland’s theme park where a small riverboat takes a group of travelers through a jungle filled with dangerous animals and reptiles but with a supernatural twist.

Jungle Cruise – directed by Jaume Collet-Serra – is set for release on July 30.
