An secret service agent reportedly shot himself dead as he played Russian roulette with a friend.

Denis D, 36, worked in a top secret role at the Lubyanka HQ of Vladimir Putin’s counterintelligence service, the FSB, in Moscow.

The married father-of-three had gone drinking with an architect friend after finishing work and they downed two bottles of brandy.

They then shared a third bottle on the way to his friend’s country house, reported Moskovsky Komsomolets.

The architect, 42, picked up his traumatic pistol and “joked” with his friend about playing Russian roulette.

“The FSB officer liked this,” but it led to an appalling accident, according to the newspaper.

“While his friend went to the fridge to get some cold water, an irreversible thing happened..

“The architect heard a shot and instantly sobered up.

“His friend was already dead.”

A police investigation is under way after his body was found in Zapovednik village.

The dead man had told his friend he was in charge of a secret FSB warehouse at Lubyanka, it was reported.

The men had met while playing “airsoft” shooting sport, a game involving replica weapons.

The architect said he kept the pistol to protect him in his country house outside Moscow.
