It’s one of the most time-consuming tasks when cooking — and it can even end in tears.

Chopping up your ingredients for a meal can sometimes take longer than the cooking itself, with the added drawback of irritated eyes if you have to cut up an onion.

It’s probably the reason why two Kmart kitchen gadgets have attracted a cult following online, with both of them having the added bonus of costing under $10.

In a TikTok video, @remotely_interesting’s Nate shared his review of the $6 pull chopper that dices up vegies, fruit, herbs and cheese quickly by using the pull handle.

He tested out how good it would be chopping an onion, placing roughly chopped chunks in the gadget and giving the chopper a few quick pulls.

While concluding that the chopper “cuts very good” Nate did warn about the sharpness of the blades after cutting his hands on it.

“I do recommend taking the blade out before you do go sticking your hand in there,” he said. “As what I did find out, this blade is quite sharp.”

His video got more than 24,000 views and dozens of comments from people also impressed by the gadget.

“This is such the bomb, I have this and it chops spring onions,” one person said.

“I’ve got one and I’m still yet to come across something that it doesn’t cut up,” another commented.

Others pointed out that other retailers such as Aldi sold versions of the pull chopper but price varied depending on the brand.

“Goold ol’ Tupperware did one – cost me a bloody fortune,” one person said.

Kmart also sells a $7 two-in-one pull chopper which has a blade and blender attachment, which means it can be used to make dips as well as chop food.

One shopper shared in the Kmart Home Decor & Hacks Australia Facebook group how she had used the gadget to prep pizza ingredients.

“Going to put it in the van when we’re unpowered,” she said. “Onion, garlic and shredded leg ham for pizza tonight.”

Other Kmart customers also gave the two-in-one and single chopper the thumbs up, with one woman saying she now experiences the “joy of never having to cry over chopping onions again”.

One shopper said the two-in-one version could whip cream which “takes a little (time) but definitely quicker and easier than the electric way”.

“I love mine. haven’t tried cream but awesome for cocktails,” another said.
