Designer Diane von Furstenberg shares photos of her 10-month-old grandson, Vito

Designer Diane von Furstenberg is sharing sweet family photos with her youngest grandson, Vito, who was born last year amid the pandemic. 

On Monday, the 78-year-old fashion icon shared photos of a family outing in Los Angeles with her son Prince Alexander von Furstenberg, 51, his wife Ali Kay, 36, and their youngest son, ten-month-old baby Vito.

‘Spring is here and Vito is growing!’ the proud grandma gushed, uploading a snap of herself walking through a flowery field with Vito tucked under her arm.

The chic designer wore printed pants, a black top, a scarf, and sunglasses for the day out, where she was accompanied by her son, daughter-in-law, and grandson.

Other photos show Alexander and Ali sitting with Vito, DVF throwing a ball for the smiling little boy, and Alexander holding up his son.

Alexander and Ali welcomed the little boy in June of 2020, and just three months later officially tied the knot on September 19, 2020 — more than a decade after getting engaged in 2009.

The couple also have a son named Leon, born in 2012, while Alexander has adult children Talita, 21, and Tassilo, 19, from his previous marriage to Alexandra von Furstenberg, 48. 

The whole family celebrated little Vito’s birth last year, with DVF sharing an early photo on Instagram.

‘Welcome Vito!’ she wrote. ‘May you have a healthy, happy, long, successful life! You landed in a loving family and we can’t wait to show it to you!’

Alexander’s sister Princess Tatiana of Fürstenberg also gushed over having ‘a little nephew for me to love,’ while the baby’s half-sister Talita wrote: ‘I already love you with all my heart.’

DVF has gone on to share other family photos featuring the newest addition, including one of Alexander, Ali, Leon, and Vito on Ali’s birthday last year.  

She has also posted quite a few snaps of Leon holding and playing with his baby brother. 

DVF now has a total of five grandchildren; in addition to her grandchildren by son Alexander, she also has another granddaughter, Antonia Steinberg, 20, by her daughter Tatiana. 

But it’s her eldest, Talita, who is most noticeably following in her fashionable footsteps. 

In 2019, Talita — then still a student at Georgetown University — launched her first collection under the DVF label, called TVF for DVF.

Just 19 at the time, she started with 23-piece collection, all priced under $300, and has gone on to designer several more collections since.

‘Even since I was literally six years old, I’ve been asking my grandma if I could design TVF for DVF,’ she told Vogue at the time. ‘I’ve just always wanted to do it.’

She’s done the work, too, learning at her grandmother’s side from a very young age.

‘When I was nine, I went to Florence with my grandma for a special resort runway collection she was doing,’ she told Teen Vogue. ‘She told me I could only come if I really worked — so there I was, mini-me helping cast the models and style the looks. 

‘Obviously I wasn’t actually doing anything since I was so young, but I felt so involved and instrumental in the success of the project. After that trip I realized that fashion was 100 per cent. what I loved and wanted to pursue.’  

After moving to the East Coast for college, she took on a bigger, more official role in the company. 

She also insists that she was ‘involved in every decision,’ unlike some celebrity vanity collaborations in which a celebrity signs off on the final product and slaps her name on it.

‘It was definitely a learning process, but one which truly ignited my love and passion to not only launch my first-ever capsule but continue to grow in the realm of design for the future,’ she said.

‘I thankfully had an amazing team who were easy to work and communicate with,’ she went on. ‘The process of creating one garment goes through many phases; it can easily end up looking very different than the piece was intended to be in the beginning, so constantly following up and having transparency is necessary.’

But while she worked with a lot of people, one person she didn’t run things by was her grandmother, who first launched the label in 1974.

‘I didn’t want her to influence my decisions since I value her opinion so much,’ she explained to Vogue. ‘I really would have changed everything based on what she said.

‘She actually didn’t see the clothes until they were produced. She had some criticisms, so we made some adjustments. She likes to get me stressed out,’ she added.

‘DVF definitely represents the working woman. TVF is not at the same place in her life where she has a 9-to-5 job. She doesn’t need, specifically, work clothes,’ she went on.

‘She’s still the effortless, easy, on-the-go woman that DVF is, just at a different point in her life, dressing for different types of events. Eventually, the TVF customer can become the DVF customer as we both grow.’

‘I look at it this way,’ Talita, who proclaimed she was ‘born to do fashion,’ said to Town & Country. ‘Your mom wore DVF, and maybe your grandmother wore DVF, but now I can bring something a little more fresh and youthful.’

Last summer, during the pandemic, Talita and her boyfriend Rocco Brignone joined her grandma and Barry Diller in Ibiza.

Talita had been vacationing on the Amalfi Coast, but meeting up in the Mediterranean was likely quite easy for the family, thanks to Diller’s $150 million 305-foot yacht Eos.
