A maths question on a sample NAPLAN test has left Australian parents scratching their heads.

A version of the standardised literacy and numeracy test, undertaken each year by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, was created by online school tutors Cluey Learning for mums and dads to take and see how they perform compared to their children.

“Students demonstrate their understanding of grammar rules or processes for solving an equation and their ability to navigate multiple choice questions, interpret instructions, and understand how to write for a specific purpose,” Cluey chief learning officer Selina Samuels said.

Parents are reportedly struggling most with questions six – a maths question – and seven – one about punctuation.
