Mexico City railway bridge collapses, killing at least 20 people

At least 20 people have died and dozens more injured after a railway bridge collapsed on top of a busy road in Mexico City, reports have said.

Local images captured after the incident show train carriages hanging from the overpass, which gave way close to the Olivos station on the metro’s 12 Line late on Monday. Rescue workers are searching the scene for stranded passengers.

Reuters said 49 people had been hospitalised.

“A support beam gave way,” Mexico City mayor Claudia Sheinbaum was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
