Diners at celebrity hotspot Le Petit Four were in for a surprise over the weekend as they were joined for dinner by music icon and the ‘voice of romance’ Johnny Mathis.

The 85-year-old crooner was spotted arriving at the popular French bistro on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood for an early dinner with two friends on Saturday night.

Exclusive DailyMail.com photos show the trio sitting at a table in the back corner of the restaurant where they chatted over their meal and even shared a decadent crème brûlée dessert.

Mathis’s visit was such a pleasant surprise to fans at the restaurant who couldn’t help but use the opportunity as an informal meet-and-greet with the legendary singer.

‘Johnny looks amazing for his age, and is full of energy. He was telling his friends funny stories while gesturing wildly, giving them a good laugh,’ one eyewitness told DailyMail.com.

‘People were asking the restaurant workers if it would be okay to go up to him to say “hello” and the staffers would check with Johnny first. Of course he always obliged!’

The celebrity sighting came during Memorial Day weekend, which saw an increase in restaurant traffic in Los Angeles as many people who had been avoiding large gatherings due to Covid fears and restrictions, were now feeling at ease.

Always a magnet for the rich and famous, the French eatery Le Petit Four in West Hollywood has struggled during the lockdowns that forced them to do ‘take out only.’

‘Johnny wasn’t afraid to shake hands, even hug fans who approached him. You could tell he loved the positive attention he was getting,’ the source added.

‘When Johnny began holding court and casually interacting with other diners it felt like things were finally getting back to normal.’

After dinner, the singer was walked to his Mercedes sedan by his pals, and on the way, waved to some security guards in the parking lot who recognized him.

‘Looking good Johnny!’ they yelled, and received a happy ‘thumbs up’ in response from the 1950’s and 1960’s singing icon.

Mathis has long been an advocate for hitting the gym regularly and healthy eating, and it’s obviously paid off.

He still plays tennis and golf and was seen sporting a hat with PGA insignia during the dinner outing.

He appeared comfortable and casual in a white short-sleeved button up shirt, white pants, and white and neon green sneakers.

Mathis received the Grammy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 for hits like ‘Misty,’ ‘Chances Are,’ ‘The Twelfth of Never’, ‘It’s Not For Me To Say,’ and more.

Born John Royce Mathis in 1935, he became a star athlete at George Washington high school in San Francisco, California.

In 1956, he was even asked to try out for the high jump team for the US Olympics.

That same fateful year, he was forced to make a choice between athletics and music, and luckily decided to go New York City to make his first recordings.

His smooth voice and musical talent soon propelled him to worldwide fame.

The chart-topper has sold an estimated 350 million records worldwide, rivaling Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.

The openly gay star has been touring the world for the last 65 years and even has upcoming concert dates – rescheduled from 2021 Covid-19 related cancelations – in Michigan, Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

In November 2015, DailyMail.com reported on a fire at his Hollywood Hills home which destroyed a significant portion of the estate, along with some personal mementos and his grand piano.

He now lives in a penthouse condo in Beverly Hills.

At the time of the fire, he told the press he was glad no one had been hurt, saying: ‘We can always replace things.’
