An ex-prison guard and inmate are due to get married in October after the pair fell in love two years ago.
In a series of TikTok videos, Kelly, from the Netherlands, revealed she began writing to prisoner, Wyatt, in 2019 through the website writeaprisoner.com
Kelly never worked at the prison where her partner is currently incarcerated.
Under the handle @KellyWyatt, she explained after having previously worked as a correctional officer for some time, she wanted to understand prison from an inmate’s point of view.
“So I went on writeaprisoner.com – and you can choose whoever you want,†Kelly said, showing the very first letter she received from her now fiance, Wyatt.

“After a few months of messaging and calling for hours and hours everyday, we admitted our feelings for one another.â€
Even though Wyatt won’t be released for another 11 years, the pair plan to get married by the end of the year after Wyatt proposed to her over video call.
He was jailed in 2012 for assault, possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a firearm. Kelly said in a TikTok clip his earliest release date is 2030.
“It never was my intention to go on the website to find someone to date,†she said.
“I picked him because he was the only one smiling on the first page and he looked very friendly.â€
In another video, Kelly explained Wyatt, who is from Oregon, in the US, enlisted a friend to have her diamond ring sent from a Dutch jeweller straight to her home.
He also wrote her dad a letter asking for her hand in October 2020.
“He accepted,†Kelly said about her father.
After many TikTok users asked Kelly how her family reacted to her being with a prisoner, she said they “love him dearlyâ€.
“They talk and have video visits regularly. They defend him as a human being,†she demanded.
“My parents have an extraordinary love story themselves with similarities. They understand,†she continued.
“I have contact with his family as well. I can’t wait to meet them!â€
While many TikTok users have commented in support of the couple’s love, others have expressed their confusion as to how she could fall in love with a prisoner.
“Being a man (in) prison doesn’t always make him a bad person. Just like being a free man doesn’t always make him a good one,†Kelly responded.
“For everyone who’s worried. You know there are more criminals/abusers/etc outside of prison. You could be dating one now and not know it,†one woman said in defence of Kelly.
“Love your story, rooting for you guys,†another wrote.
“This is such a beautiful story I’ve never see that before god bless u darling,†added a third.
