The Victorian Premier posted the image on Facebook on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate seeing his mother Jan for the first time in almost 12 months.

Mrs Andrews lives in Wangaratta, 2.5 hours northeast of Melbourne, and has been separated from her son since before Christmas in 2019 – when catastrophic bushfires tore through the region.

The pair were then unable travel beyond the infamous ‘ring of steel’ separating Melbourne and regional Victoria to curb the spread of Covid-19 during the height of the pandemic.

‘Waited 332 days for this,’ the premier wrote on social media above an image of the mother and son sitting at an outdoor table with face masks on.

People flocked to the comments section to share their own stories of being reunited with family members.

‘Beautiful! And today I saw my own son in Williamstown for the first time since January. A wonderful day,’ one woman wrote.
