WASHINGTON – Following a rare moment of bipartisanship on social media, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., slammed Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Thursday, saying his support of the effort to overturn the election results endangered her life.Â
Her tweet came after Cruz said he agreed with AOC that it was “unacceptable” that Robinhood, a popular stock trading platform among amateur investors, restricted the trading of several highly-volatile stocks.Â
“I am happy to work with Republicans on this issue where there’s common ground, but you almost had me murdered 3 weeks ago so you can sit this one out,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted to Cruz. “Happy to work w/ almost any other GOP that aren’t trying to get me killed. In the meantime if you want to help, you can resign.”Â
She continued: “While you conveniently talk about ‘moving on,’ a second Capitol police officer lost their life yesterday in the still-raging aftermath of the attacks you had a role in. This isn’t a joke. We need accountability, and that includes a new Senator from Texas.”
Ocasio-Cortez linked to a news article about a second officer who had responded to the Capitol riots and died several days after. She has previously told followers on Instagram that she thought she “was going to die†in the attack.
Cruz responded to Ocasio-Cortez’s tweets, telling reporters on Capitol Hill “there’s a lot of partisan anger and rage on the Democratic side. It’snot healthy for our country, it’s certainly not conducive of healing or unity, but everyone has to decide how they want to interact with others.”
Cruz, along with Missouri GOP Senator Josh Hawley, led the charge in the Senate to challenge President Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory, feeding false claims of fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

Supporters of former President Donald Trump subsequently stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 in a violent attempt to stop the count and overturn the election.Â
The breach prompted an evacuation of the Senate and House chambers, sent lawmakers and former Vice President Mike Pence to secure locations and started a 3 1/2-hour lockdown before officials declared the building was secure.
The Capitol Police Union Chairman Gus Papathanasiou said in a statement that the Capitol Police and MPD combined suffered 140 injuries that day.
Ocasio-Cortez tweeted to Cruz that he hasn’t “even apologized for the serious physical + mental harm you contributed to from Capitol Police & custodial workers to your own fellow members of Congress” and that he should “get off my timeline & stop clout-chasing.”
“Happy to work with other GOP on this,” she concluded.
