Aston martin chairman Lawrence Stroll hit by investor rebellion amid anger over boss’s bonus
Aston Martin was dealt a blow as shareholders opposed the firm’s pay and its chairman’s re-election.Â
At the annual general meeting, 18 per cent voted against the remuneration report, while 17 per cent said they did not want chairman Lawrence Stroll re-elected as a director.Â
Shareholders were unhappy about Aston Martin handing chief executive Tobias Moers a £142,000 bonus for 2020 as the car maker took taxpayer support during the pandemic.Â

They were also frustrated about performance and the dearth of women on the board.Â
Stroll – Aston Martin’s top shareholder – has been trying to turn the company around.Â
The Canadian billionaire took a 20 per cent stake in January 2020 and also brought in Mercedes-Benz owner Daimler as a top investor.Â
He made his money by investing in fashion houses such as Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors.Â
With just one woman on the board, the firm said: ‘The board of Aston Martin continues to focus on its composition and the need to increase diversity.Â
‘This is a matter of priority and we expect to be able to update on progress very soon.’
