‘People are telling me I’m stupid and I agree’: Big Brother star Tilly Whitfeld talks about the viral reaction to her DIY TikTok beauty hack gone wrong
Tilly Whitfeld has addressed the viral reaction to her DIY TikTok beauty hack gone wrong.
The 21-year-old Big Brother star opened up about her self-inflicted disfigurement in an interview with the New York Times on Tuesday.
Speaking about her newfound infamy, which occurred after she admitted she’d deliberately injected her own skin with lead-based ink, the reality TV star said ‘the main response has been that I’m stupid, and, yeah, I agree.’Â

Whitfield’s profile has blown-up after she was left hospitalised with horrific facial injuries from a freckle hack she copied on TikTok.Â
Admitting she’d already spent more than $12,000 trying to fix the damage to her skin, the blonde beauty told NYT she went ahead with the dangerous, self-performed cosmetic surgery because ‘it didn’t hurt at all’.Â
However in the aftermath, Tilly temporarily lost vision in one eye from the self-administered acupuncture, performed with needles dipped in tattoo ink containing high levels of lead.Â

Tilly told The Daily Telegraph that despite her Instagram following going up recently, she’s no influencer.
She said people are attracted to her page because she keeps things real.Â

‘They want to see people with personalities. We are going below the surface now,’ Tilly told the publication.Â
She added: ‘I think people are attracted to my page because I say it how it is.’Â Â
Last month, Tilly revealed how an at-home acupuncture treatment went terribly wrong, leaving her with horrible facial injuries.
She also temporarily lost vision in one eye after trying to remove the scarring on her face caused by the botched procedure.
Tilly had attempted to self-administer acupuncture after watching somebody do it on TikTok, but warned fans to leave such procedures to the professionals.
She decided to open up about the incident after Big Brother fans kept asking why she was wearing a blue clay face mask on the Channel Seven show.Â

‘This is what my face looked like a week prior to entering the house hence why I always have makeup on and my skin is always covered,’ she wrote on Instagram, alongside confronting images of her facial injuries.
‘This is the result of attempting to remove scarring I inflicted on myself trying to replicate an at-home beauty procedure I saw on a TikTok video two months before Big Brother,’ she added. Â
‘Please, please don’t try and DIY or at-home beauty procedures. I ended up in hospital with temporary loss of vision in my eye due to swelling and was very sick from the infection, not to mention my face was somewhat unrecognisable.’
Tilly explained she suffered ‘deep, below-surface-level scarring and dark pigmentation’ following the botched treatment.
