A 10-year-old girl managed to bag her family a home after months of searching when she penned a heartwarming letter and offered her pocket money as part of the deal.
Mum-of-two Bec Touzel and her husband had moved to New South Wales in Australia a year ago and say they decided to rent in the area and fully investigate their options before looking to buy.
But when the time came, Bec says other prospective homeowners were flocking the area after discovering they could leave the city and work from home.
Houses were only staying on the market for about 10 days before being snapped up and the family had made 10 offers but missed out each time, leaving them feeling “really discouraged”.
Just when they were beginning to give up hope, Bec says: “We found a beautiful home just down the road but it was just over our budget. We spoke to the agent and decided to put an offer in anyway.
“Our two daughters were very involved in searching for a home and our 10-year-old old was getting concerned so she decided to help us.”
Their daughter wrote them a letter, explaining: “Dear mum and dad, this is your money now for the house and other things if you want. Don’t take them back, they are yours now!”
She had also enclosed £6.60 ($11.75) she had saved up in pocket money.
Bec loved her daughter’s heartwarming gesture, and sent the note and money to the sellers along with their offer, adding: “$11.75 is worth a lot when you’re 10!”
It struck a chord with the owners and after a bit of negotiating they sold to the family for under the asking price – despite having other offers meeting and surpassing the value.
Bec wrote on Facebook : “They said they had two daughters themselves and remembered searching for their first home.
“We’ve been in our beautiful new home a month now, and are so grateful for the generosity shown to us!”
The post was shared on The Kindness Pandemic Facebook page, where it has racked up thousands of reactions and hundreds of comments.
One person responded to say: “This made me teary. What a gorgeous story and what wonderful sellers.”
A second wrote: “Kindness grows. Beautiful daughters (good parenting by the way) & thoughtful sellers. Enjoy your new home.”
And another added: “Best story ever… I’m so happy for your family. Home at last and that story will be retold at her 21st!”
