‘Optical illusion’ stuns Woolies shopper

A Melbourne woman has said staff at her local Woolworths store should be given a pay rise after stumbling across an aisle with an impressive detail.

The shopper took to TikTok, racking up more than 200,000 views on a video that shows just how immaculate the shelves look.

And to be fair – it does look pretty impressive.

Her clip shows rows of shelves perfectly aligned and filled with a variety of tinned foods from tuna to vegetables, with barely a single gap in sight.

“Staff at my Woolies definitely need a rise. Look at this,” she said, before showing off the aisle.

Hundreds have people have since flooded the comments section with some saying it’s the “neatest” Woolies they’ve ever seen.

“That’s crazy! So satisfying,” one person wrote.

“This is what dreams are made of,” said another.

One Woolies worker described it as “facing up” which is a common tool in the retail industry.

It’s when products are pulled to the front of the shelf to keep the store appearing neat and organised.

“Sometimes when the staff have time they all come on the floor and do it for 10-20 minutes,” they wrote.

“As someone who works at the store and starts before the store is open, it looks like that before it gets absolutely trashed,” added another.

A Woolworths spokeperson told news.com.au they have expert organisers across their stores and they love seeing team members take pride in how their store looks.

“The Carrum Downs team have done a great job restocking the shelves to make it easy for customers to find what they’re looking for,” the spokesperson said.

“We’re glad to see our customers and social media enjoy the team’s efforts and will share the post and positive words with them.”

Becki, the TikTok user who shared the video, who goes by the handle @itsjustbecki, said as amazing as it looked, it was tough to find what she was looking for.

“Not gonna lie I actually struggled to look for things cause it was like an optical illusion,” she joked.

One person claimed there was a study done that revealed customers are less likely to take an item if the shelf is super-organised (like this), however it can be argued neater and fuller looking shelves have desirable psychological effects on customers for businesses.

Others joked that the state manager is “definitely” coming in, while others weren’t impressed by the organised shelf at all.

“That is literally their job,” one person said.

“Yes it’s their job but you don’t often get to see it so perfect because customers mess it up,” another responded.

Woolworths has been contacted for comment.
