Two jabs Johnson: Boris receives his second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine – on the day it was announced half of all UK adults have now been fully inoculated

  • PM got follow-up AstraZeneca jab tonight, just under 11 weeks after his first dose

  • Following the jab, Mr Johnson gave a thumbs up and said he ‘didn’t feel a thing’

Boris Johnson joined half the UK population tonight as he received his second dose of Covid vaccine.

The Prime Minister received his follow-up AstraZeneca jab tonight, just under 11 weeks after his first dose on March 19.

It was administered by Dr James Black at a vaccination centre at the Francis Crick Institute, which specialises in biomedical research.

Following the jab, Mr Johnson gave a thumbs up and said he ‘didn’t feel a thing’, the same reaction he gave to his first vaccination at St Thomas’ Hospital in London in March.

Mr Johnson then thanked Dr Black, who said he was volunteering at the vaccine centre once a week while continuing his work on blood cancer research at the institute.

Posting a picture of the short procedure on Instagram tonight he wrote: ‘Second jab done. When it’s your turn, get the jab.’

Mr Johnson received his first dose of the Astra Zeneca/Oxford vaccine at St Thomas’ Hospital in March.

He spent several days in intensive care at the same hospital after contracting Covid-19 in Spring 2020.

The news comes on the same day that half of adults in the UK are thought to have received both doses of a vaccine, according to new figures, and a day after the Government announced that three quarters of adults had received their first dose.

A total of 26,422,303 second doses have now been delivered since the vaccination rollout began almost six months ago.

This is the equivalent of 50.2 per cent of all people aged 18 and over.

In England, 22,442,383 second doses have been given – the equivalent of 50.7 per cent of the adult population.
