It’s a fast food giant that claims its food will taste the same no matter which country you live in.

But one American woman has gone viral on TikTok for insisting this isn’t the case in Australia – with KFC actually tasting better here then it does in her home country.

In a video that’s been viewed more than 95,000 times, expat Sophia, who is originally from Los Angeles but now lives in Sydney, said KFC tastes “more fresh here”.

“This is the first time I am trying KFC in Australia,” Sophia said in the video.

“I swear the fast food in Australia is so much better than the fast food in America because the quality of the food is just a lot better, like you can see it in the photos and the videos as well.”

Sophia said she had previously posted a photo of a Macca’s burger on her Instagram.

“All my friends from California were like wait why does that look so good?

“I have a theory that Australians are smaller than Americans because Australians charge for condiments and the portions are smaller,” Sophia added.

Her video got hundreds of comments from Aussies, who said it was down to “fresh produce” and food rules being different to the United States.

“I think it’s because Australia has really high food safety/food quality standards from our Government,” one person wrote.

“Australia has some of the highest food standard globally. Whereas America uses chemicals in everything,” another said.

Others said Australia’s fast food quality was one of its best-kept secrets, with one person commenting: “Don’t tell the world, it might catch on.”

“I swear the first time I ate McDonald’s in Australia, I was like wow, this is sooooo much better. Macca’s in America is literally the worst,” another wrote.

However some pointed out that the servings were “way low” compared to overseas and Sophia herself said the KFC chips were “mediocre”.

“The chips at KFC could be better,” she wrote in the comments.

Aussie Macca’s ‘so good’ compared to United States

Sophia isn’t the only expat obsessed with Aussie fast food, with Florida woman Kaymie Wuerfel going viral for her video raving about McDonald’s earlier this month.

Kaymie, who now lives in Australia, said she preferred our Macca’s to the American version as the “food quality” was so much better.

“I never ate it much in America because when you eat McDonald’s in America you genuinely feel like you are going to die,” she said.

“And I know here is probably not much better but it is so, so good.

“I’m eating those Chicken McPieces and downing my frozen Coke, the last thing on my mind is my health – which probably is a bad thing.”

In the comments, plenty of Aussies agreed, suggesting it could be because US McDonald’s used different oil to cook their food.

Other customers have previously claimed that the difference is down to Australia’s premium ingredients such as high-quality beef, or the lack of sugar in Aussie bread.

“I tried McDonald’s while I was in the US and I literally was sick a few hours later,” one person wrote.

“I tried the USA Macca’s too when I was there. It’s so bad I don’t know how it became so big,” another commented.
