A single copy of Sabrina The Teenage Witch has silently haunted a woman in the US for over 21 years after she found out she’s been a wanted criminal since the year 2000.
Speaking to the Cleveland County District Attorney’s Office this month, Caron McBride discovered the videotape she rented from an Oklahoma store two decades ago had left her with a charge of felony embezzlement of rented property.
Ms McBride said she only found out after attempting to change the name on her licence after getting married in Texas.
“The first thing she told me was ‘felony embezzlement,’ so I thought I was gonna have a heart attack,†McBride said.
She said the videotape was checked out under her name while she was living with a “young man†with two kids. Evidently, it wasn’t returned on time.
“I had lived with a young man. This was over 20 years ago. He had two kids, daughters that were 8, 10 or 11 years old. I’m thinking he went and got it and didn’t take it back or something. I don’t know. I have never watched that show in my entire life, just not my cup of tea,†she said.
Ms McBride says she has consistently let go from jobs under mysterious circumstances and says she now knows why.
“This is why. It’s because when they ran my criminal background check, all they’re seeing is those two words: felony embezzlement,†she said.
The district attorney’s office was made aware of the bizarre mishap and decided to dismiss the case against Ms McBride entirely.
