Prince Charles lost his father Prince Philip on the same day as his wedding anniversary with Camilla.

The couple, who wed on April 9, 2005, had been due to mark their 16th anniversary on Friday.

But the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are in mourning, along with the rest of the Royal Family, after Philip died aged 99.

They usually share a personal photo on their anniversary on social media and thank everyone for their well wishes.

But this year they refrained and shared the statement from Buckingham Palace instead, which said the Duke of Edinburgh had passed away “peacefully” at Windsor Castle on.

Paying tribute to his father, Charles, 72, said his “energy was astonishing in supporting my mama” and “doing it for such a long time”.

He told the BBC: “Well you know he didn’t suffer fools gladly, so if you said anything that was in any way ambiguous he’d say ‘make up your mind’.

“So perhaps it made one choose your words carefully.

“He was very good at showing you how to do things and would instruct you in various things.”

Charles, who went to see the Queen, 94, hours after his father’s death, added he “probably wanted to be remembered as an individual in his own right”.

Princess Anne said she would best remember her father as “always being there”, someone to help with a problem or bounce ideas off.

Prince Edward, Philip’s youngest son, said he had been a “rock” in the Queen’s life and never tried to overshadow her.

He said: “It was always a challenging role to take but he has done it with the most extraordinary flare and an extraordinary tact and diplomacy.

“He has never ever tried to overshadow the Queen in any shape or form and I think he has always been there as that rock in the Queen’s life, and certainly within his family that was exactly the same.”
