Queen ‘left handwritten note on Prince Philip’s coffin and signed it with pet name’

The Queen wrote a handwritten note for Prince Philip for his coffin today as she said goodbye to her husband of seven decades.

Her Majesty left the note and reportedly signed it with the pet name he would call her.

The 94-year-old laid the Duke of Edinburgh to rest in St George’s Chapel in a moving service yesterday afternoon.

Prince Philip stood by the Monarch for more than 70 years and died on April 9.

Philip’s coffin featured a wreath of white, spring flowers including lilies selected by the Queen.

Also resting on top was a handwritten card reading ‘in loving memory’ alongside the duke’s Admiral of the Fleet naval cap and sword.

It’s reported the signature on the card, which was half-tucked out of sight amongst the flowers, was signed with Elizabeth or Lilibet – the duke’s nickname for the queen.

People report that the signature read ‘Lilibet’.

The Monarch was given the name by her father, King Geroge VI because she couldn’t pronounce her own when she was younger.

Philip, along with other close members of the family, kept it ever since.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment to The Sun on the personal detail, saying it was “private”.

The Queen wore all black and a face mask for the service and appeared deep in thought.

She sat alone in the vast chapel as she said her final goodbyes to her loyal husband, and she will now rule alone for the first time in her 69-year reign.

Strict coronavirus rules meant the monarch had to make her way to the front of the chapel alone, with guests sitting two metres apart.

Prince Charles fought back tears during the service as the Dean of Windsor paid tribute to Philip’s dedication and service to the Queen and country.

Prince William and wife Kate Middleton sat next to each other and Prince Harry sat opposite on the other side of the chapel.

Philip’s coffin was lowered into the Royal vault, and his final resting place will eventually be buried alongside the Queen at Frogmore Gardens when she passes away.
