Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revelations ‘surprised’ Oprah during tell-all interview

Oprah Winfrey has revealed she was “surprised” at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s revelations about life as royals during their explosive TV interview.

The iconic US chat show host admitted she had no idea the couple would open up so much about their private lives during their two-hour tell-all with Winfrey last month.

During the televised chat, the couple, which gave up their royal duties last year before moving to the US, accused the Royal Family of “perpetuating falsehoods” about them.

They also revealed one family member had expressed “concern” about the potential colour of their – then-unborn – son Archie’s skin because Meghan is mixed race.

Meghan also said she felt suicidal during her time as a senior royal.

Oprah told Talkshoplive: “Yeah, I was a bit surprised. I was surprised at the amount of, you know, literally with that thing that’s now become a meme, that’s like, ‘What?’ I’m like, ‘What? You’re going there? You’re going all the way there?'”

She added: “When you have somebody who’s as willing to be as open as vulnerable, as truthful as they were, so I don’t give myself credit for that.

“I give myself credit for asking the questions, but the reason the interview was the way it was was that they answered the way they did.”

Oprah also revealed she texted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex before the interview to discuss the “intention” of their chat.

She said she wanted the couple and the show’s producers to be “aligned in [their] goal. And our shared intention was the truth. They wanted to be able to tell their story and tell it in such a way that allowed them to be truthful as possible.”
