Brits will be allowed to hug family and friends from next week, Boris Johnson is expected to announce on Monday.
The Prime Minister is due to set out the rules on hugging loved ones and attending wedding and funerals at a 5pm press conference.
He is expected to hail the return of “personal judgement” and “common sense” after May 17, sources say.
Brits have been starved of embraces for over a year, and will be allowed once more to hug each other sensibly when the next stage of lockdown lifts.
At the moment anyone who doesn’t live together is advised to keep at least 1.5 metres away from others to stop the spread of the virus.
It comes as the Duchess of Cornwall Camilla, 73, admitted to hugging her five grandchildren despite it not being allowed by lockdown rules.
She said: “I have had a hug … I am double-jabbed so we’ve had a sort of half-hug.”
The duchess’s son Tom Parker Bowles has two children, Lola, 13, and Freddy, 11 and daughter, Laura Lopes, has three children, Eliza, 13, and twins Gus and Louis, 11.
She is also step-grandmother to Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 6, Prince Louis, 3, and Archie, 2.
The restriction on physical contact between people from different households, unless they form a “social bubble”, is expected to be lifted this month.
Camilla told The Daily Telegraph: “It’s been lovely just to be able to see them again and talk to them.
“Telephones and machines and these Zooms are fine, but nothing’s ever the same as being able to give somebody a good hug.
“I think we’ll all be absolutely thrilled to be together with our grandchildren.”
The PM will also on Monday confirm changes set out last week that care home residents in England can now go on low-risk trips, reports say.
This includes journeys such as to relatives’ gardens or a local park without having to self-isolate for 14 days when they return.
Mr Johnson is also set to say rules for weddings and “other life or commemorative events” will remain unchanged from May 17.until June 21 when the rules are due to be lifted altogether.
The Sunday Telegraph sources told of concern in Whitehall over a large backlog of weddings that have been unable to take place during the pandemic.
In Worcestershire alone more than 2,000 couples are now waiting to tie the knot.
