Black Lives Matter activist and mum-of-two fighting for life after being ‘shot in head’

A prominent racial equality campaigner is fighting for her life after being shot in the head in a brutal attack.

Sasha Johnson is said to be in a critical condition after being attacked in the early hours of Sunday – with political group Taking The Initiative Party sharing the sad news via Instagram on Sunday evening.

The London based activist has been known for her work within the Black Lives Matter movement – and is also the mother of two children.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, the Taking The Initiative Party shared photos of the activist alongside the distressing news of her shooting.

They wrote: “It is with great sadness that we inform you that our own Sasha Johnson has been brutally attacked and sustained a gunshot wound to her head.

“She is currently in intensive care and in a critical condition.

“The attack happened in the early hours of this morning, following numerous death threats as a result of her activism.

“Sasha has always been actively fighting for black people and the injustices that surround the black community, as well as being both a member of BLM and a member of Taking the Initiative Party’s Executive Leadership Committee.

“Sasha is also a mother of 2 and a strong, powerful voice for our people and our community.”

Asking for support, the post concluded: “Let’s all come together and pray for Sasha, pray for her recovery and show our support to her family and loved ones.”

Distressed followers shared their shock and hopes for Sasha’s speedy recovery.

One wrote on Instagram: “Praying for Sasha and her family no one should have to go through such things.”

And another wrote: “Praying. Praying. Praying. This is heartbreaking.”

It comes after a woman was shot in Peckham at around 3am on Sunday before being taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, although this has not been confirmed as Sasha.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “We are all hoping that this young woman’s condition improves. Our investigation is in its early stages and urgent enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances.

“I would appeal to the residents of Consort Road and the surrounding area to check any doorbell or dashcam footage for any suspicious activity that may relate to this investigation.”
