George Floyd’s daughter chants ‘say his name’ outside White House year on from murder

George Floyd’s sister is leading a passionate chant outside the White House – a year on from his tragic murder.

Mr Floyd died on May 25, 2020, after police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds during an arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the US.

In April, he was found guilty of murder and is set to be sentenced in June.

On Tuesday, May 25, his seven-year-old daughter Gianna led a chant of “Say his name. George Floyd” in Washington DC.

Mr Floyd’s family earlier met with US President Joe Biden and vice-president Kamala Harris to discuss the passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

The three other officers at the scene of Mr Floyd’s murder have pleaded not guilty to aiding and abetting Chauvin, and will go on trial next year.

The Minneapolis Police Department fired all four officers the day after Floyd was killed.

Biden earlier tweeted: “Last month’s conviction was a step towards justice – but we cannot stop there.

“We face an inflection point. We have to act.”
