Driver hit mum and toddler while going 100mph in 40 zone, then tried to blame victim

A photo of the driver who hit a mum and her toddler’s car while going over 100mph in a 40 zone has been released.

Leanne Webb was speeding in her high-powered Audi SQ5 on a road in Birmingham when she crashed into a 28-year-old mum’s car on May 8, 2019.

The mum suffered life-changing injuries and her daughter was also seriously injured as a result of the Oldbury incident but has made a full recovery, West Midlands Police reported.

Throughout the investigation, Webb, of Wychall Lane, Kings Norton, said she was not at fault and even blamed the injured driver for causing the collision by turning across her path, BirminghamLive reports.

During the trial, Webb accepted dangerous driving but provided a defence of driving under duress which was not accepted by the jury.

His Honour Judge Berlin sentenced Webb at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday (June 25).

Webb was sentenced to four years and four months imprisonment with a six-year and 10-month driving disqualification.

She will be required to complete an extended driving test before being allowed back behind the wheel.

Sergeant Mark Crozier, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Witness testimony, CCTV evidence, and forensic reconstruction were vital in this case proving that, at the point of collision, Webb was travelling at not less than 104mph along the 40mph dual carriageway.

“Her imprisonment will never compensate for the level of injury suffered by a mother and her young daughter.

“Once again the dangerous driving of one selfish individual has resulted in untold suffering for the family and friends of the victim, who will never fully recover from the devastating injuries she sustained as a result of this collision. She continues to receive rehabilitation treatment in a residential care facility.”
