Kate Middleton the Duchess of Cambridge has been appointed a new role by the Queen.

Prince William on Tuesday announced his wife had been appointed as the sponsor of HMS Glasgow during the second day of his royal engagements in Scotland with her majesty.

The Duke of Cambridge announced his wife’s appointment after touring with the monarch, MyLondon reports.

Visiting the BAE Systems’ Shipyard in Govan, he saw the construction of the Royal Navy’s first City-class Type 26 frigate.

He announced proudly: “Today, I’m very pleased to announce that my family’s connection with Type 26 will endure for many years to come.

Before announcing Kate’s new role, William gave a touching tribute to his late grandfather Prince Philip, who served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War.

He said: “My family’s affection for the Royal Navy is well known, and as I saw the work taking place here today, I was thinking of my grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh.

The touching tribute comes after the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh in April this year, aged 99.

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton has “taken a leaf” from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Archewell website with her new project, according to a royal commentator.

The Duchess of Cambridge has designed a new website to accompany the launch of The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood at Kensington Palace earlier this month.

Royal commentators Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie discussed the style of the new royal website on their Royally Obsessed podcast.

Rachel said: “The website’s beautiful it feels a little bit like it takes a leaf out of the Archewell kind of bloggerly-type website.

“I don’t know, it just felt very clean and not stuffy at all which I do think some of the royal websites do feel outdated now.

“But it did feel very happy and bright and exciting.”
