A new record for the hottest day of the year in the UK looms as a 30C sizzling day is on the way this weekend.

Sunday will see Brits melt in 30C mercury after a glorious Friday and Saturday – with temperatures staying high next week too in what could be a seven-day heatwave.

The current record is at 28.8C from Heathrow Airport in west London last month (June 14), which beat the previous report just weeks earlier.

London and the south east will see the highest temperatures over the coming days, with 26C expected on Friday and 28C the day after.
