Prince Charles has ‘sombre’ approach to being King and sees it as ‘long way off’

The thought of becoming King “weighs very heavily on Prince Charles’ shoulders”, a body language expert has claimed.

The Prince of Wales was photographed on a recent royal visit to Wales with Camilla.

At one point, Charles met with congregation members at St Brynach’s Church in Newport.

Discussing his interactions, body language expert Judi James told the Daily Express: “Charles has often shown a rather sombre approach to his role as future king as though it weighs very heavily on his shoulders.

“With the Queen now appearing to have gone through some kind of a renaissance recently, storming through her workload with an energy and a smile that belies her years, Charles seems to be adopting a more relaxed approach to his current role.

“This suggests that he still seems to see his role as king as being a long way off yet.”

Judi believes Charles is still enjoying his role and the less intense pressures.

She continued: “Charles has been looking more relaxed and more open to having fun on his visits than ever before.

“And this suggests he is still relishing his slightly less responsible role in the firm for as long as possible.

“There appears to be no air of impending doom settling over his body language, but instead we can see him using nudge gestures here in what appears to be an attempt to share jokes with the people he is visiting.

“There are no photos here suggesting a triumphant return to the land where he is Prince, either.”

Charles gave England his backing before the heartbreaking final with Italy – but admitted watching them play “isn’t good for the nerves”.

The Prince of Wales was visiting a boozer in the village of Ponthir, Wales, when he was quizzed about his plans for the Euro 2020 final.

He told pubgoers: “It would be marvellous if they [England] won.”

Regular Colin Morgan told the PA news agency: “He said ‘it’s not good for the nerves, watching England play’.”

The prince had donned an apron to pull a pint of the local beer, Butty Bach, behind the bar and landlord Barrie Walden joked: “We are short-staffed at the moment.”

Taking a sip, Charles declared it “very good” before raising his glass to wish staff and regulars “Good luck!”.

Moving on, he stopped to chat to locals, spotting one man with a pint of cider and asked: “How many glasses do you have to have before you feel it, or lose feeling?”
