A Place In The Sun couple lose almost 12 stone after shock at TV appearance

A couple shed almost 12 stone together after being stunned at how they looked on TV show A Place In The Sun.

Lisa and Paul Sanderson took the keys to their Spanish bungalow then waited excitedly to watch the episode, screened three months later.

But they were shocked when the cameras exposed just how overweight they were.

They resolved to shape up, and are now “feeling better than ever” after Lisa went from 17.2st to 10st, while ­husband Paul dropped 4.5st to 12st.

Security supervisor Paul, 47, said: “We watched ourselves on TV and were shocked. We said some of the ­timber needed to go, and we weren’t talking about the house we’d just bought.”

The couple, from Barnsley, South Yorks, went on the show looking to snap up a holiday bolthole and were teamed up with presenter Jasmine Harman.

The Sandersons fell in love with a £72,500 three-bedroom bungalow in Torrevieja, on the Costa Blanca.

But Macmillan nurse Lisa, who ­herself had been through a battle with breast cancer, admitted her ­spirits fell when she saw their episode, ­recorded in 2019.

The mum of three, 49, said: “I knew I had struggled with my weight since the chemotherapy, but seeing us both­ looking like that on screen made me know we had to do something.

“We both looked at each other and said, ‘Oh my word, something has to change here’.

“We joined Weight Watchers, cut out a load of the junky food which was doing us no good, and made the ­effort to spend more time doing ­exercise.”

She added: “Both Paul and I feel better than we ever have done, and it has all been down to a wake-up call from seeing us on TV.”

A Place In The Sun spokesman said: “Lisa and Paul are a lovely couple and we are so happy their lives have been transformed by the past 12 months.”
