A romantic fella recreated the TV show ‘Taskmaster’ to pop the question to his game-loving girlfriend.
Matt Hunt, 45, decided to set a series of challenges for his partner of 26 months, Annie Lightfoot, 37, before popping the question.
Mum-of-one Annie has seen every series of the hit Channel 4 show – which sees celebrities take part in a series of wacky tasks for hosts Greg Davies and Alex Horne.
Annie, from Misterton, Doncaster, said: “He knows how much I love the show and put in so much effort.
“It was the perfect proposal. I couldn’t say no!â€
The couple first met at the fire station in 2019 when Annie signed up to become a part-time firefighter.
On 16 December last year Annie had arranged to play an online version of Taskmaster with friends.
So Matt had a cunning plan to hijack the Zoom event.
Annie, an entrepreneur, said: “There were a lot of laughs while doing the tasks. For one we had to run around the house and get dressed for the beach.
“In another we had to make a superhero out of things we found in the kitchen.â€
After the game was finished, Matt handed Annie a hand-drawn Taskmaster envelope that led her on a scavenger hunt.
He also showed her a video filled with personalised messages from her friends and family, and one from her comedic hero Jason Manford.
The final task said Annie could answer with ‘one word’, and Annie was stunned to see Matt, a firefighter, drop to one knee with an engagement ring.
She gushed: “I just thought that the birthday messages were the surprises.
“When Matt proposed I was taken aback.
“It was so thoughtful and I’m incredibly lucky.â€
Matt added: “It went perfectly and although we can’t plan the wedding yet we can’t wait to get married.â€
