Police searching for missing boy, 2, find him dead in bin – as mum’s boyfriend charged

A two-year-old boy was tragically found dead in a bin – with his mum’s boyfriend charged with murder.

Athian Rivera was pronounced dead on Friday evening, February 19, at an apartment complex in the city of Cheyenne, Wyoming, the US.

He was last seen alive hours earlier, around the corner on Desmet Drive.

His mum’s boyfriend Wyatt Lamb, 27, was initially taken into police custody on an unrelated felony warrant for failure to appear and a misdemeanour warrant for parole violation.

However, Cheyenne Police have since charged him with aggravated child abuse and murder.

The force said in a statement: “On February 19, 2021, at approximately 1.00pm Cheyenne Police Officers responded to a report of a missing 2-year-old child around the 500 block of Desmet Drive.

“Cheyenne Police Officers conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area and found the missing child deceased in a nearby dumpster.

It continued: “This case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.”

Earlier this month, a couple pleaded guilty to torture and manslaughter after punishing a baby for soiling her nappy.

Maddilyn-Rose Ava Stokes died on May 25, 2017, after suffering severe burns to her back, groin, buttocks and legs in Brisbane, Australia.

The couple told cops she had been placed in a hot bath in the days leading up to her death.

They refused to seek medical help and attempted to treat her themselves as police found blood-soaked bandages, make-up cleaning pads and toilet paper, ABC.net.au reports.

But the two-year-old died from cardiac arrest at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.

Sarah Farnden, crown prosecutor, said the girl would have suffered “excruciating pain” in the days before her death.

“She would have been in great misery and pain over that period of time, unable to walk,” she said.

“She would have been dehydrated and weak, unable to eat and drink properly, possibly vomiting — she likely became delirious and unconscious before ultimately going into cardiac arrest and ceasing breathing.”
