A police officer in North Carolina is under investigation after allegedly hanging a dog by its leash and slamming it into his squad car.

The sick footage shows him reportedly choking and hitting the dog while someone laughs in the background saying “We’re good, no witnesses.”

The Salisbury Police Department has “administratively separated” him from the police dog, named Zuul.

An outside agency is probing the incident, to “ensure the review is impartial and provides an assessment of the incident that is complete, thorough, and fair.”

Zuul had jumped out of his squad car during a training exercise, which reportedly annoyed the cop, writes TMZ.

He immediately screamed for the dog to stop – which he did. But then the officer put him on a leash and reportedly hanged Zuul by it, slammed him into the side of the SUV, before allegedly throwing him into the back seat and slapping him.

In the sick footage, someone says they are ‘good’ as there is no one else around and no witnesses.

It’s not clear who said the statement, whether the cop interacting with the dog or another officer watching the incident unfold.

Salisbury Police Chief Jerry Stokes addressed the footage at a news conference with Zuul by his side.

He said it’s conducting a review but couldn’t comment on the case it is under investigation.

It’s not clear whether the cop has been suspended following the video.

Stokes also said: “Canine training tactics and corrective measures can sometimes be alarming out of context. SPD cannot and will not comment about whether the training tactics used in the video were appropriate, because that is still being reviewed.”

He claims Zuul, who is now in the hands of a different police sergeant, was not harmed.

Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander said the police department is being assisted by an outside agency to conduct the probe.

An assessment of the current policy and procedures regulating the police department’s K-9 program will be reviewed, “to ensure they are appropriate and up-to-date with current police canine training and use practices.”

The mayor added the review includes seeking expert opinion and input in the matter.
