13 police officers were killed during an ambush and their dead bodies left in the streets after two bloody attacks in Mexico.
The gory attacks happened in Zacualpan and Coatepec Harinas and are believed to have been carried out by members of organised crime groups.
Mexican news publication La Silla Rota said that one attack happened on the road to Zacualpan where there was a confrontation between security personnel and members of organised crime.
In Coatepec the violence is believed to have broken out on Thursday (March 18) afternoon between 1pm and 2pm.
Earlier reports suggested there were 17 officers killed but a Mexican reporter confirmed that the total number killed is 13.
The organised gangs caused blockades to prevent and security reinforcements coming to help.
It is understood that on March 16 there was also a confrontation between an organised crime gang and police in Coatepec Harinas but there were no injuries or deaths.
After the deadly attacks the Attorney General’s Office held a press conference detailing the tragic events and vowing to catch those responsible.
It has been reported that four officials were killed in Zacualpan and nine in Coatepec Harinas.
Both Zacualpan and Coatepec Harinas are located over 120 kilometres south-west of Mexico City.
In February 11 people were shot dead at a party, including women and children, in Jalisco, Mexico.
According to local reports, the shooting broke out between Pemex and Cinco de Mayo streets and the attack was directly aimed at a house that was hosting a party.

The perpetrators were carrying long and short weapons and fled in three black vehicles.
And in December 2020, a former governor was shot dead in Jalisco.
Jalisco is one of the epicenters of Mexico’s drug-related warfare, and home to the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
