Rioters have set a police van on fire and smashed windows of a police station as protests over a new bill turned violent in Bristol.
Shocking pictures on Twitter have shown a police van ablaze on the streets, with unconfirmed reports also claiming people have reached the roof of Bridewell Police Station.
Journalist Neil Whitby tweeted just moments ago: “Protesters are said to be on the roof of the police station while riot officers defend the Bridewell entrance.â€
A Bristol Live reporter at the scene says the station is “under siege†with missiles raining down.
Avon and Somerset Police have tweeted: “Officers are continuing to deal with a smaller number of protestors in Bridewell Street.
“They’ve had projectiles thrown at them, including a firework, and have been verbally abused. This is unacceptable behaviour and those responsible for offences will be identified and brought to justice.”
