A bus roof was ripped off after it crashed into a bridge, with emergency services now treating passengers.

The accident occurred on Rocky Lane, between Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill in Sussex.

It is unclear how many passengers were onboard, but several have been treated.

Mid Sussex Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Inspector Darren Taylor said: “The team, along with our fire and ambulance colleagues, have had to attend Rocky Lane this morning as a bus has misjudged the bridge and hit the bridge, damaging its top level.

“Ambulance colleagues are attending to some passengers.

“Please avoid the road at his stage.”

Compass Travel, which runs bus services in Sussex, said its services had been disrupted.

The company tweeted: “An accident at the railway bridge on Rocky Lane means service 33 is diverted via Isaacs Lane, the significant congestion caused by this and the closure of Fox Hill means services are delayed in and around Haywards Heath.”

Earlier this week, three people died in a car crash outside a pub in Liverpool.

The accident took place on East Prescot Road around 12.15am on Monday, April 26, after a BMW collided with a roundabout close to The Greyhound pub.

A man in his 20s, a woman in her 20s, and a man in his 30s were all tragically pronounced dead after being rushed to hospital.

The road was closed and police launched an investigation, the Liverpool Echo reported.

Merseyside Police earlier confirmed in a statement: “Their families have been informed and an investigation continues at the scene, including CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries.
