Cabinet reshuffle at the end of term, Bahlil replaced by Rosan and Andi replaced by Yasonna

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reshuffled the cabinet by replacing four ministers and three heads of institutions, Monday (19/08/2024). Jokowi officially inaugurated three ministerial positions and one deputy minister of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet for the remainder of the 2019-2024 term.

The ministers were inaugurated based on Presidential Decree Number 92/P of 2024 on the Dismissal and Appointment of Ministers of State of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet for the 2019-2024 Period.

Jokowi appointed Geridra’s Supratman Andi Agtas as Minister of Law and Human Rights, replacing Yasonna Laoly, a minister from the PDI-P.

Jokowi also appointed Bahlil Lahadalia, who previously served as Minister of Investment/BKPM, as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, replacing Arifin Tasrif. Jokowi then placed the former head of the Prabowo-Gibran winning team, Rosan Roeslani, as Minister of Investment/BKPM.

Jokowi also added a Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, Angga Raka Prabowo. Angga added to the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information who had previously been filled by Nezar Patria.

“By Allah, I swear that I will be loyal to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and will carry out all laws and regulations as straightforwardly as possible for the sake of my service to the nation and state. That in carrying out my duties and positions I will uphold the ethics of office, work as well as possible, with a full sense of responsibility,” said the ministers’ oaths at the State Palace, Monday (19/08/2024).

In addition to the ministerial inauguration, in a different ceremony, Jokowi also appointed Hasan Nasbi as Head of the Presidential Communications Office. Jokowi also inaugurated the Head of the Nutrition Agency and the new Head of BPOM.

The Nutrition Agency is a new institution established by Jokowi. This agency is closely related to the free lunch program that became a campaign promise of President and Vice President-Elect Prabowo-Gibran.

Jokowi’s cabinet reshuffle comes close on the heels of a recent decision. Jokowi last reshuffled his cabinet on July 18 when he replaced one deputy minister and added two deputy minister positions.

At that time Sudaryono was appointed as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Thomas Djiwandono as Deputy Minister of Finance II, and Yuliot as Deputy Minister of Investment / Deputy Head of the Investment Coordinating Board.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by, among others, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.

Also present were SOE Minister Erick Thohir, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi, Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, and Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council Wiranto.
