Terrifying arial footage shows a boat of young women “lucky to be alive” after wobbling on the edge of a dam with a 36 ft drop below.

In the clip, filmed on Thursday (June 10) in east Austin’s Lady Bird Lake, the small blue vessel is nose over the rim of Longhorn Dam with its four passengers desperately hoping it doesn’t topple over.

Rescue officials appear to be recording the scene from a helicopter and replaying information over to another boat that is trying to rescue the stricken people.

The rescue boat is tied to the blue vessel with rope and it is slowly trying to reverse it away from the edge.

Orange life jackets being worn by the passengers were lowered from STAR Flight, the emergency helicopter service in Travis County.

Luckily both the boat and all its occupants were pulled to safety by the Austin Police Department lake patrol boat.

Austin-Travis County EMS (emergency medical services) tweeted updates about the incident and a video of the intense rescue operation was watched more than 12,000 times.

It wrote that “911 callers reporting a boat ‘up against the dam’, ‘looks like it’s going to go over the dam'”.

“These girls are lucky to be alive/injured terribly. I think they need some safety training,” said a second person.

A third wrote: “Yes! They’re lucky the police showed up.”

“Too close for comfort!!!” tweeted someone else.

Another said: “And not a life vest among them until rescued.”

Tragically in March last year, a dead body was pulled out from Lady Bird Lake and emergency medical services were unable to resuscitate the victim, Mail Online reports.

Witnesses reported seeing someone go into the water and not resurface.

They were able to get the body out of the water and paramedics tried to save them, but it was too late.
