A driver avoided being hit by a train by mere seconds, as shown in distressing footage recorded from a train approaching a level crossing.
In the clip, recorded at Barrow-in-Furness in Lancashire, a driver makes a “dangerous assumption” while trying to cross the tracks and is nearly crushed by the oncoming train.
The clip shows a train pass over the level crossing at a farm and the driver of the red car begins to move forward, seemingly having not noticed a second train was coming in the opposite direction, LancsLive reports.
Fortunately, the vehicle makes it across the crossing with just seconds to spare as the train driver slams the brakes.

British Transport Police Lancashire have shared the footage with a Tweet, writing: “BTP Lancashire tweeted: NEAR MISS This is the moment a car driver at an open #LevelCrossing (farm crossing with no barriers) made the dangerous assumption that because one train had passed that it was safe to cross. It wasn’t! #BarrowInFurness”
Officers added that the incident happened in October, last year, and the driver opted to take a level crossing awareness course at the cost £84.

The motorist completed it successfully and avoided a £100 fine and three points on their license.
BTP Lancashire added: “Car driver education is important in reducing these incidents.”
This comes after a new mum was killed when her partner drove around the barriers at a level crossing only for the car to be hit by a train.
And a sickening video showed a van being crushed by a fast-moving train at a level crossing.
