Harry and Meghan want Lilibet to be christened at ‘Windsor in front of the Queen’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly want their baby daughter Lilibet to be christened at Windsor so the Queen can attend, royal sources claim.

They said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex want her to have a similar christening to that of Archie, her older brother who is now two.

The insider added that the royal pair, who moved to the US from the UK last March, are willing to ‘wait until circumstances allow’, writes the Mail Online.

It’s said their intentions of a royal christening for Lilibet were “made clear” when Harry returned back to the UK for the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue earlier this month.

The source said: “Harry told several people that they want to have Lili christened at Windsor, just like her brother.

“They are happy to wait until circumstances allow.”

If it were to go ahead, it would be Meghan’s first trip back to Britain since the move across the Atlantic with her husband Harry and little Archie.

Lilibet, who will also be known as Lili, has not yet been given the eighth place in line of succession to the throne, according to the official royal website.

It’s believed the list will be updated after her christening, meaning Lili would be above the Queen’s second son, Prince Andrew who will move down to ninth place.

She will be able to join the list if she is not baptised as a Roman Catholic, as they are specifically excluded from succession to the throne due to the monarchy also being head of the church.

Archie’s christening, in 2019, was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

Only a small number of guests were invited, which did not include the Queen, and his godparents have never been revealed although other royal babies’ godparents have been made public beforehand.

The Sussexes’ approach to the christening differed from Prince William and Kate Middleton, who allowed media to cover each of their children’s christenings.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also released family photographs for fans afterward.
