Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are planning to return to the UK with their family for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, a royal insider has claimed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who sensationally quit royal duties and moved to the US last year, are said to be keen to make a “special trip” with their young kids, Archie, two, and one-month-old daughter Lilibet, to celebrate the monarch’s 70th year on the throne next year.
The couple have reportedly barely spoken to the Royal Family since choosing to live independently in California.
The rift between them has grown in recent months following two bombshell TV interviews, in which the Sussexes accused the royals of “perpetuating falsehoods” about them, while the prince also said they showed “total neglect” for his mental wellbeing.
It was hoped that Harry’s trip to the UK last week to unveil a statue of his late mum Princess Diana with his brother Prince William would provide the opportunity to rekindle their relationship, but he spent just 20 minutes mingling with guests at the ceremony before leaving.
He flew back to the US the following day.
However, the news he reportedly intends to return once more with wife Meghan and their children to join in the royal festivities for the big jubilee weekend in June 2022 could mean the couple are ready to finally bury the hatchet.
“They wouldn’t miss it for the world. Harry and Meghan are making a special trip from Los Angeles to London with [their children] Archie and Lilibet,†an insider told Closer.
To mark the occasion, parades, concerts and parties are planned – as well as a four-day British Bank Holiday weekend.
In what has been dubbed her “farewell tour”, the Queen, 95, who is the longest-serving monarch in British history, will also be joined by other senior royals, including son and heir – and Harry’s dad – Prince Charles, William and wife Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, and their three children.
“We’ll also be seeing [William and Kate’s children] Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis making a couple of special appearances with the Cambridges,†the source said.
“For Elizabeth, the Platinum Jubilee isn’t about herself. It’s about others,†added the insider.
