Harry and Meghan’s name choice for second child shows Royal Family still matters

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle choice of name for their baby daughter shows they still care about the royal family, an expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have named their child Lilibet, after the Queen, which is the monarch’s favourite nickname.

Normally when a royal names their child there is often some connection with previous family members or a name that naturally fits within the family.

This time it’s even more and that’s more surprising since Harry and Meghan stepped away from royal life with very public disagreements between the couple and the family following.

The name of their new daughter is Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. There are two striking choices there, Lilibet being the Queen’s nickname and Diana, after Harry and William’s late mother.

Sky News royal correspondent Rhiannon Mills commented on the choice of name: “The choice of Lilibet, the Queen’s nickname, is in some ways an unexpected choice but a sign that family still matters despite everything that has been said.

“Both Harry and Meghan have spoken warmly about Her Majesty during interviews, despite being critical of the family and the institution that she leads.

“Yes, in recent weeks, Harry has again been very open about how much his mother meant to him during interviews and his response to the scandal around Diana’s 1996 appearance on Panorama.

“In many ways it was inevitable and a loving tribute from her son that he would want to include Diana as his daughter’s middle name.

The choice of name clearly shows that family still means something.

It seemed inevitable that Lady Diana would get a tribute through the newest member of the family but this child will also be raised differently, for a start it is the first royal baby to be born outside the UK.
