Logan Paul was attacked by Kevin Owens after a match hailed as ‘phenomenal’ by fans at WWE WrestleMania.
Owens had battled long-time friend Sami Zayn on the second night of the huge show from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida.
The two have waged war on NXT and on weekly WWE television numerous times, but this was the first time the pair had the chance to meet on the company’s biggest stage.
YouTube star Paul was on hand having been recruited by Zayn ahead of the event as part of a storyline in which Zayn wanted the 26-year-old to investigate a conspiracy against him in WWE.
As it was, a fast-paced, hard-hitting match ended with Owens the victor, but not after he’d sustained some incredible punishment of his own at the hands of his fellow Canadian.
After the bell, Zayn was furious that Paul was congratulating Owens on his win, the Ohio native then turning on Zayn by shoving him to the canvas
Attempting to buddy up with Owens, Paul would then incur the wrath of the fan favourite who promptly turned around and dropped him with a stunner, much to the delight of the live crowd.
The 25,000 strong turnout had been heavily invested in the bout, some taking to social media to praise the efforts of Owens and Zayn – evening claiming they’d ‘saved’ the show after two comparatively matches to open the show.
One commented: “That was a phenomenal sprint – not a second wasted.”
Going further, another added: “Man… I didn’t want that match to end. KO and Sami are so damn good!”
Another reflected that the crowd “was very into it, and it was super fun for the amount of time it was given.”
WrestleMania, held over two nights this weekend, is the first WWE event to be staged in front of fans for over a year.
In the first night of the show, Brit Drew McIntyre was defeated by Bobby Lashley while Braun Strowman beat Shane McMahon.
