A loyal dog bravely protected his owner from her knife-wielding husband, leaving him with serious injuries.
The 62-year-old suspect, who has not been identified, allegedly carried out the attack in the municipality of Coracao de Jesus, southern Brazil.
According to a police report, he got home drunk and started arguing with his 58-year-old wife.
He then took a knife from the kitchen and started threatening her and their two grandchildren, aged 16 and 17.
The dog, called Fluffy, intervened after the man attempted to stab one of the kids, O Tempo reports.
He was knifed in the chest and abdomen as he came to the defence of his family.

The husband was captured and arrested following an 18-hour manhunt on April 20.
His wife took the wounded pooch to a vet in Montes Claros, some 45 miles away.
Vet Caio Santos Rabelo explained to local media that had the rescue been delayed by a few hours, Fluffy might not have survived.
The pooch entered the clinic with multiple injuries, including two significant perforations in the chest and abdomen, in which he had bowel leakage which threatened infection and death.

He underwent an ex lap, in which the wounds to his abdomen were cleaned and closed.
Fluffy remains hospitalised and is being given anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, and painkillers.
The dog will be subject to further tests and should be discharged in a little over a week.
A police officer told G1: “He was a true hero.”
The identity of the suspect has not been revealed and it is not clear what charges he faces.
The identities of the other victims have not been revealed and their health status is not clear.
Last March, a woman was saved from a “vicious and unprovoked” assault at the hands of her abusive partner by her loyal dog.
Liam Gove, 24, knocked out two of his partner’s front teeth when he punched her in the face during an argument.

He also beat a Staffordshire bull terrier which came to the woman’s aid and turned on him, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard, bringing the unprovoked attack to an abrupt end.
As a result, he spent two days in hospital having the bite wounds cleaned and stitched, the Daily Record reported.
Sheriff William Summers handed Gove two years’ supervision, ordered him to complete the Caledonian programme, and gave him 300 hours of unpaid work in January 2020.
He also banned him from owning or keeping dogs for five years.
