Man found dead behind wheel at Asda car park as police scramble to supermarket

Police were rushed to a supermarket car park in Birmingham after a man was found dead at the wheel of a car.

A group of firefighters and ambulance crews also attended the scene outside Asda Queslett in Great Barr.

Part of the store’s car park was sealed off, and seven ambulances and two fire engines as well as a large number of police vehicles were deployed.

One eyewitness told BirminghamLive: “Police are telling people to get back. All the emergency services are here.”

A spokesman for the force told BirminghamLive: “Police and paramedics were called to the car park at Asda Queslett at 6pm today following concerns for a man who appeared unconscious inside a vehicle.

“It quickly became clear there was nothing that could be done to save the man. His death is not believed to be suspicious.”

Despite the incident, Birmingham Live reports, the supermarket remained open for business and cars were arriving and leaving as usual.

A private ambulance later arrived in the car park.

A small cordon remains in place and the car in which the man was found has been covered over in green tarpaulin.

Yesterday, Wednesday, April 28, West Midlands Police confirmed that the body of another man, who is thought to be in his 30s, was discovered in a car nearby Smethwick, just before 11.30am .

That death is not currently being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the coroner.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said of that incident: “We were called following concerns for the welfare of a patient in a car on Wellington Road, Smethwick at 11.12am.

“Two ambulances, HART paramedics and two paramedic officers were sent to the scene.

“Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the patient, a man, and he was confirmed deceased by ambulance staff on scene.”
