Meghan Markle claims she knew very little about the royals before meeting Prince Harry, even though she wrote about her dream of becoming a princess and Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in her blog seven years ago.

During a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Duchess of Sussex said she “didn’t grow up knowing much about the royal family” and did not Google Harry before she met him.

She added: “It wasn’t part of something that was part of the conversation at home. It wasn’t something that we followed.”

Meghan, 39, who is expecting her second child, also claimed she did not even know how to curtsey when she first met the Queen at The Royal Lodge in Windsor.

But when she was working as an actor in 2014, Meghan wrote in her now-defunct blog The Tig about how she grew up dreaming of becoming a princess and “the pomp” surrounding Kate and William’s wedding.

A section published by The Sun states: “Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power.

“For those of you unfamiliar with the ’80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength.

“Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate.”

Several of Meghan’s childhood friends have claimed that she took a close interest in the royal family growing up, particularly Princess Diana.

Ninaki Priddy told The Sun that Meghan was “always fascinated” by the royals and wanted to be “Princess Diana 2.0”.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton claims that when Meghan was 16, she watched the funeral of Princess Diana with “tears coursing down her cheeks”.

Meghan and Harry made several explosive claims during their sit-down interview with Oprah, which was watched by more than 11 million people when it first aired in the UK on ITV.

They said a royal, who has not been named, expressed concern over “how dark” their son Archie’s skin might be.

Meghan said she felt suicidal at one point, but was told she could not get professional help because “it wouldn’t be good for the institution”.

Harry then said Charles “stopped taking my calls” after he stepped back from royal duties and his family have cut him off financially.

Earlier this week, it was revealed the couple are now believed to be worth almost £100 million, as the value of the stunning nine-bedroom mansion they bought in California last summer has soared.

The Sussexes, who will not return as working members of the royal family, bought the property in Montecito for $14.65 million (£10.5 million) in June 2020, but estate agents in the area say it may now be worth up to three times that.
