Former first lady Michelle Obama has responded to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview with Oprah last week.

She has said she hopes there is ‘love and resolve’ and forgiveness on the horizon for the Royal Family, after the Duchess of Sussex claimed a member of the family made racist comments on baby Archie’s skin colour before he was born.

Meghan, 39, and Harry, 36, sat down with the US host in a bombshell chat that was watched by millions across the world.

They discussed their decision to step back as senior royals last year, and Harry said he and his wife Meghan were ‘cut off’ by the family when they moved stateside.

Now, Michelle Obama has weighed in on the interview.

She told Access Hollywood: “My hope is that, when I think about what they’re going through, I think about the importance of family and I just pray that there is forgiveness and there is clarity and love and resolve at some point in time. Because there’s nothing more important than family.”

Meghan spoke about learning the royal rules and protocols and claimed how she didn’t receive help or support from the palace when transitioning into royal life and the months following tieing the knot with the prince.

Meghan, who is currently pregnant with their couple’s second child, said she had suicidal thoughts due to the intense public scrutiny and adjusting to royal life.

The Duke and Duchess have also received backlash since the show was aired, with former co-stars of the actress suggesting it wasn’t the ‘right time’ to reveal their family issues due to the pandemic where millions of families are suffering loss and hardship.

But one fan, after hearing the couple signed up to reported multi-million deals to pay their bills, set up a fundraiser to help pay the royals’ mortgage.

Following the interview, Buckingham Palace released a statement, saying: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
