A gran has been arrested after police allegedly found the body of a missing 8-year-old girl inside a rubbish bag in her car.
Connie Smith was taken into custody when authorities discovered that the vehicle was the same one she had been driving the day her granddaughter, Taryn Summers, disappeared.
The body found is believed to be her granddaughter as court documents referring to the victim by the initials T.S, Crime Online reports.
Although she has not been accused of murder, the 54-year-old from Idaho faces a number of charges including failure to notify a death and the destruction, alteration and concealment of evidence.
Authorities say Smith placed the 911 call to report the 8-year-old missing, claiming she had run away.
When detectives began their investigation, they questioned her about a section of carpet missing in the girl’s bedroom.
The grandmother claimed the girl had defecated on it, so she had cut the section out and burned it.
On April 15 a body was found in a black bin bag on the floor of a car which was smeared with vomit.
Investigators have not released the name of the victim or the cause of death.
Prosecutors are believed to have dropped the original first-degree murder charge against the 54-year-old.

Attorney Erick Thomson reportedly asked the court for a $1 million bail.
A GoFundMe page has now been set up in memory of the girl to support the family, which has so far raised $3,945.
Police are continuing to investigate the child’s disappearance and find the cause of death.
