There has been a ‘powerful explosion’ in a Russian city, according to reports.
A blast on Gagkaev Street, Vladikavkaz, has caused a supermarket to be destroyed this morning.
The shockwave reportedly smashed the building and debris is left in its place.
Some people have been injured in the blast, a spokesperson for emergency services told Sputnik on Friday.
“An explosion occurred inside a supermarket on Gagkayeva street,” the spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, the one-story building was destroyed completely.
“It was presumably a gas explosion. There are casualties,” he continued.
Vladikavkaz is the capital city of the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania, which is a federal subject under Russia.
It’s based towards the south of the country, near to the border of Georgia and Azerbaijan.
The building in the has been left crumbled on the ground with several people standing by the side looking on at the devastation.
White smoke is billowing in the air following the incident.
It’s believed the blast took place near to a residential area, with blocks of flats spotted in the background.
It’s not yet known what caused the reported explosion, but police believe it could have been linked to gas.
