Prince Charles has been left “deeply hurt” by Prince Harry and Meghan’s tell-all interview but plans to contact his son to mend their relationship, according to insiders.

According to reports in the Mail on Sunday, the Prince of Wales plans to contact Harry within the next few weeks to heal the rift following explosive claims that came from the sit-down interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

A friend of Prince Charles told the paper: “You are looking at a father who is deeply hurt by where he finds his relationship with his son.

“But, after much reflection, he also realises that nothing good will come of prolonging the fight. He feels it is time to heal. Now is the time to mend a broken relationship.

“The Prince has a real desire to get back to the close relationship that he enjoyed with Harry for the longest time.

“A conversation has to start sometime both with Charles and also with Prince William.”

The Royal Family came under fire from Prince Harry during the Oprah interview, who claimed that he needed to “educate” his relatives.

He added that he felt “let down” by his father, who he claims asked him to put his breakaway plans for his family in writing, and said that he refused to take his calls at one point.

“I had three conversations with my grandmother and two conversations with my father and – before he stopped taking my calls – he said, ‘Can you put all this in writing what your plan is?'” Prince Harry said during the interview.

“He asked me to put it in writing and I put all the specifics in there, even the fact that we were planning on putting the announcement out on January 7 [2020].”

Harry also spoke about being “cut off financially” while his wife, Meghan, claimed there had been “concerns and conversations about how dark” their son, Archie’s, “skin might be when he’s born”.

The couple refused to say which member of the Royal Family had made the comments but later said it was neither the Queen nor Prince Philip.

Prince Harry also suggested he and his wife had not been protected or received recognition for their work within the family.

“I feel really let down because he’s been through something similar, he knows what pain feels like and Archie is his grandson,” he said.

“Of course I will always love him but there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened and I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try to heal that relationship.”
